Services begin second trimester in Grade 3 with Honors Math. For a description of these programs, please visit Elementary and/or Junior High Programs and Services.

STUDENTS NEW TO THE DISTRICT THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL YEAR
Elementary Identification and Placement
Identification
  • Once a student is enrolled, parents may request testing for gifted services at the student’s school.
  • Testing begins with the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT).
  • If a student scores 90 or above on the CogAT, further testing is necessary to complete the matrix and determine placement.
  • Further testing includes
    • IOWA Assessment in math and/or reading
    • Honors Math, Project IDEA, and/or Project IDEA Plus district placement tests
    • Performance Series tests in math and/or reading
Placement
  • Once all testing is completed, scores are placed on a matrix to determine placement.
  • Matrices can be accessed HERE
    • Renzulli Scales, a teacher observation inventory, is waived for new students.
    • Therefore, a new student will be placed in Honors Math or Project IDEA with 8 points on the matrix. A new student will be placed in Project IDEA Plus with 4 points on the matrix.
