Principal's January Message

Posted by Mrs. Dvorchak at 1/1/2017 9:00:00 AM

Welcome back to the start of the New Year and the start of second semester. I hope you enjoyed a wonderful winter break full of family, friends and fun! January brings with it cold and snow. Please be sure your students have appropriate winter gear to play outside each day. Boots and snow pants are needed to play in the snow. When the weather is cold and snowy many of our students who typically walk to school begin to use the carpool lane. Allow a little extra time in the morning and make sure your children wear boots as often there is snow on the ground when students exit the car. Thanks for your help to ensure all students are at school and ready to learn each day at 8:15am.

Mark your calendars for the following important events in January.

January 9 - School Resumes

January 9-27 Performance Series Testing

January 13- Half- Day Institute (students dismissed at  11:35) January 16- No School- Martin Luther King Day

January 17- Home and School Meeting

January 20- Movie Night at Prairie

January 26 – Open House from 6:00-7:30pm
Our annual Open House will be held on Thursday, January 26 from 6:00-7:30pm. All families are welcome! This is truly a time to celebrate the learning that takes place at Prairie School. Students enjoy sharing all about Prairie during this special night.  We can’t wait to see you all there!

Kindergarten Preview will be held at Prairie School on Thursday, March 9. Two sessions will be held on this day. 8:45am – 10:00 will be for those with last names that begin with A-L and the 10:15-11:30 session will be for those with last names that begin with M-Z. Please share this information with anyone you know who has an incoming kindergartner. Please contact Barb Butusov in the Prairie office to let her know you will be attending this im- portant event for our newest students! The office phone number is 630-420-6348.

New kindergarten students must also be registered at the district office. You can begin doing this in February- look for district communications. Please see the district website for required paperwork.  We are looking forward to meeting all of the future Prairie Dogs!

How do you show your Prairie Pride? Our students have been reflecting on this in their classrooms and we will begin sharing their responses over the announcements daily.  In addition, Mrs. Cain and I visited each class- room in December to share literature focusing on empathy.

We are looking forward to an excellent second semester full of learning, collaboration, and celebrations!
