    Dear Highlands Families,

Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year!  I hope summer has been relaxing and renewing for you all.  Summer has been a busy time here at Highlands as I have been hiring new team members and preparing the building for another fantastic year ahead.  As you know, Highlands has been under renovation for most of the summer.  District maintenance has done a tremendous job with our renovations. I am excited for you to be able to see the changes that have been made.   I look forward to meeting and welcoming our new and returning community members in August as we move forward to our school year.

As you all know, Highlands is a vibrant, student centered, and innovative school.  We strive to provide the best possible environment to foster both academic and social emotional health and success.  August and September provide many opportunities for your family to learn about Highlands School, beginning with our new family tour on August 10th at 10:00am.   Please meet near the LRC.  During this time, families new to Highlands will have the opportunity to receive a tour of the building, meet other Highlands families, and have questions answered as we assist you in your transition to your new school.  Following the new family tour, we will be hosting an Ice Cream Social for the community from 11:30-12:30 on the playground.  All are welcome!

School will begin for 1st-5th grade students on August 17th from 8:15-2:30pm.  Also on August 17th, kindergarten students will participate in a Sneak Peek where they will be able to visit their classrooms in small groups with their parents.  All kindergarten students should have received notification of their assigned Sneak Peek times in the summer mailing.  The first full day of Kindergarten will be on       August 18th, 8:15AM-2:30PM.

The start of the 2016-2017 school year is just around the corner, so enjoy the remaining days of summer with your family.  My door is always open should you have any questions or would like to stop in to introduce yourself.  I look forward to serving the Highlands community for another school year.

    Respectfully,

    Laura Noon, Principal

Strategic Blueprint

  • District 203’s FOCUS 2020 Strategic Blueprint

Posted by Superintendent Dan Bridges at 6/27/2014
FOCUS 2020 is the strategic plan for comprehensive improvement between 2014 and 2020, designed in response to community feedback, best practice, and a vision for the future. Ultimately, this blueprint will advance the fulfillment of the district’s mission.

FOCUS 2020’s foundation is the Future Focus Community Engagement process that occurred over the course of a year where hundreds of members from across the community provided feedback to the district leadership regarding areas such as facilities, finances, measuring student success, and programs of study. Learn more about Future Focus by clicking on the specific “Quick Link” to the left of this text.

The Blueprint includes four “Strategic Focus” areas, namely to:
    1. Design and implement effective practices that promote learning experiences for all.
    2. Foster a high-performance culture focused on student learning.
    3. Steward resources effectively to promote student learning.
    4. Effective communication and community relations.
Each Strategic Focus then establishes “Commitments.” These commitments are what the district leadership pledges to accomplish within a distinct timeframe. Each commitment then includes a detailed “Action Plan” which will be accessible by the public upon final draft.

District administrators provided an update on Blueprint Commitments to the Board of Education at the July 27, 2015 meeting.  To watch that presentation, please click here
